Del Norte High School, located in the newly established communities of 4S Ranch and Del Sur, opened in 2009-2010 with freshman and sophomore classes - adding a class each subsequent year until all grades, 9-12, were offered in 2011-2012 school year. Today, the $105 million facility supports over 2000 students.
Del Norte High School, the fifth and last comprehensive high school to be opened in the Poway Unified School District, is state of the art. The school's design has taken into account the rapid transformation of technology and is equipped to respond to new mediums of communication as they emerge.
Del Norte has 45 standard classrooms, 12 science labs, 11 vocational education classrooms, 6 physical education classrooms, 5 art labs, 5 special education classrooms, 2 music classrooms, a drama classroom, a performing arts center, an ASB classroom, and a host of athletic facilities including a competition size swimming pool, a sports stadium with a track, a gymnasium, weight training rooms, shower and locker rooms, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, handball courts, outdoor basketball courts, and lots of open space to support soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, rugby, color guard and marching band, as well as intramural sports.
Since opening in 2009, Del Norte has been recognized as a CA Distinguished School and earned a six-year Clear WASC Accreditation - both in the first year of eligibility. Additionally, Del Norte has been recognized nationally as a top performing high school in publications like Newsweek, US News and World Report, and the Washington Post.
